URUGUAY-ARGENTINA: Court refuses injunction sought by Buenos Aires

Argentina's attempt to halt, with immediate effect, the construction work on the two cellulose plants being erected on the Uruguayan bank of the Uruguay river was dealt a sharp blow by the International Court of Justice at the Hague: on 13 July the court denied an injunction sought by Argentina on the grounds that the environmental damage it caused was not imminent since the plants will not become operative until August 2007 in one case and June 2008 in the other.
